Without an air receiver tank, compressed air is delivered directly to end consumers. The compressor generates compressed air only when air is consumed at terminals.
Frequent loading and unloading imposes a heavy burden on the air compressor. So can we omit the air receiver tank?
Why must an air compressor be fitted with an air receiver tank? The primary reason is that air compressors operate under rated power. With a storage vessel for compressed air,
the compressor starts working when the pressure inside the tank drops below the rated pressure. When air consumption stops and the pressure reaches the rated value, the compressor will shut down automatically.
When an air receiver tank is installed, compressed air can still be supplied even after the compressor stops, thanks to the air stored inside the tank. Frequent startups of the compressor bring extremely high motor inrush current,
approximately 5 times the normal operating current, resulting in substantial energy waste.
During repeated startup and shutdown cycles, the air compressor runs under no-load conditions. Long periods of no-load operation lead to massive energy loss. In an air system equipped with an air receiver tank,
the compressor can stop running under stable pressure. It ensures continuous production and avoids energy waste caused by unnecessary idling.
