Enable automatic start-stop control of the air compressor. When the air receiver reaches the set pressure, the compressor will shut down automatically,
avoiding continuous operation and unnecessary power waste.
Extended Functions of the Air ReceiverStar-delta starting is direct-on-line starting; the instantaneous starting current of the motor is approximately 7 times the rated current.
Frequent startup causes severe damage to the electrical components of the compressor, shortens their service life, and creates heavy impact on the power grid, interfering with normal operation of other electrical equipment.
Variable frequency air compressors adopt soft start, with starting current around 2 times the rated current, so the impact is relatively minor. The air receiver installed at the compressor outlet stabilizes discharge pressure and provides buffering. It also has a commonly overlooked critical function:
preventing liquid from flowing back through the compressed air pipeline into the air compressor during shutdown, which may cause unit damage. If the air receiver is removed,
an inverted U-shaped bend must be adopted in pipeline design to achieve the same protective effect. Comments welcome.
Viewpoint 2:The air receiver maintains stable pipeline pressure of the compressed air system and avoids drastic pressure fluctuations. Air consumption at the end of the system is hardly constant all the time.
The air receiver balances system pressure and reduces frequent loading and unloading of the air compressor.
In addition, it further cools dried compressed air to lower moisture content. For special compressed air systems (e.g., large-displacement centrifugal air compressors, large-volume pipeline networks, and stable air consumption), the air receiver can be omitted. Nevertheless,
most conventional compressed air systems require an air receiver.
Viewpoint 3:An air compressor itself has no built-in space for compressed air storage. Generated compressed air must be consumed immediately, which is inefficient. With an air receiver,
compressed air is charged into the tank until target pressure is reached. The compressor restarts only when pressure drops to the lower threshold.
This mode delivers better performance in terms of energy efficiency and compressed air quality. Hence, an air receiver is generally indispensable.
Viewpoint 4:Air compressors supplying equipment with low and intermittent air demand can run without an air receiver. However, to guarantee stable compressor performance, constant air pressure and qualified air quality,
installation of an air receiver is strongly recommended.
Supplementary BenefitsAir compressors experience drastic operational cycles. Frequent opening and closing of pressure vessels accelerates valve wear and destabilizes oil and air circuits,
resulting in unreliable operation. Equipping an air receiver effectively mitigates such issues.
Energy-saving effectFrequent startup and shutdown leads to high power consumption of the motor. When the compressor runs under no-load conditions for prolonged periods,
substantial compressed air is wasted. An air receiver allows the compressor to stay shut down stably under prope
