Five Steps to Select a Safe Air Receiver Tank
Air receiver tanks are widely used industrial equipment for compressed air storage and purification, and they are classified as special safety equipment subject to strict national supervision. To ensure safe and reliable operation, we have summarized five key steps for selecting and purchasing qualified air receiver tanks.
Step 1: Check Design Pressure and Material Selection
First, verify compliance of the design pressure, followed by material specifications and plate thickness requirements. Do not prioritize low prices when making a selection. Low-cost products are likely to involve shoddy workmanship. It is recommended to purchase products manufactured by reputable suppliers.
Currently, the market features a wide variety of air receiver tank brands. Safety factors are adopted during pressure vessel design, and safety valves requiring annual inspection are installed on pressure vessels. Furthermore, China’s design standards for pressure vessels are more conservative compared with many overseas standards. Therefore, properly selected pressure vessels are generally safe to operate.
Products from large enterprises and well-known brands are preferred. Manufacturers of this caliber strictly implement GB150-2011 Steel Pressure Vessels and establish internal corporate standards. They are equipped with advanced production facilities, standardized production management, and high-quality raw materials. Although their products may cost slightly more, reliable quality delivers peace of mind during operation. Manufacturers certified by multiple quality management systems are also top choices.
Step 2: Inspect Appearance
The appearance of a product reflects its grade and value. Only formal, well-funded manufacturers with advanced equipment and sound quality assurance systems can guarantee superior surface finish. High-quality air receiver tanks feature prominent logos recognizable from a distance of 50 meters. Upon close inspection, the tank shell boasts bright, evenly finished surfaces with smooth, neatly defined weld seams. Prefer newly manufactured units.
Step 3: Examine Product Nameplate
The nameplate shall display the manufacturer, supervisory inspection authority and production date, together with the official seal of the inspection authority at the upper right corner. Mandatory marked information includes serial number, weight, volume, maximum allowable working pressure, operating pressure and hydrostatic test pressure. The working medium of the tank shall also be specified.
Beneath the nameplate on the tank body, there must be a stamped serial number matching the number printed on the nameplate. Do not purchase the tank if the two numbers are inconsistent.
Step 4: Check the Quality Certificate
In accordance with national regulations, every air receiver tank must be delivered with a quality certificate, which serves as key documentation proving compliance. For safety purposes, avoid purchasing any tank without a quality certificate, regardless of how low the price is.
Step 5: Verify Manufacturer Qualifications
Well-established brand enterprises possess qualifications and credibility unmatched by ordinary small factories. Some small manufacturers hold pressure vessel manufacturing licenses yet operate outdated equipment and non-standard management systems. Their air receiver tanks may carry hidden safety hazards.
Buyers shall fully verify the manufacturer’s qualifications to avoid unnecessary risks. Request the supplier to provide inspection documents issued by the local special equipment supervision institute. After delivery to your facility, a re-inspection by the local special equipment supervision authority at your site is also required.
Common discharge pressures of air compressors are 7 bar, 8 bar, 10 bar and 13 bar, among which 7 bar and 8 bar are the most prevalent. As a general rule of thumb, the tank volume is selected as 1/7 of the air compressor’s flow rate.
