Oil that is too cold carries water, oil that is too hot loses its film—this 60°C thermostat kit is what keeps both extremes away from your airend. 2901146400 is Atlas Copco’s genuine thermostat valve service kit for oil-injected rotary screw compressors, opening at 60°C to route lube oil through or around the cooler. Below setpoint it bypasses the cooler so the machine warms up fast and avoids condensation inside the sump; once oil reaches working temperature, flow shifts to the cooler to lock the operating window.

A lazy or stuck element is one of the most misdiagnosed faults in the field. Cold-running oil causes milky lube, high acid load, and rapid separator loading. Over-open elements cause repeated high-temp shutdowns even when the cooler is clean. Replace the kit on scheduled overhaul or when warm-up time and discharge temperature stop tracking normally—and never reuse the old O-ring from the removed valve.

Lay parts out in disassembly order, clean the valve bore, fit the new thermostat assy and seal, then torque the cover evenly. Confirm machine model and serial before dispatch; 60°C and 40°C kits look identical until they fail in the wrong direction.
