1635099600 Coupling Bowex 100 Flexible Jaw Coupling for Screw Air Compressor

Detailed Product Description

Driveline Role

Between motor and airend there is always some shaft misalignment and torsional pulse. The Bowex 100 coupling uses two nylon/plastic hubs with interlocking teeth or jaws, sometimes with an elastomer element, to bridge that gap. It lets the shafts float slightly while keeping positive drive connection. On screw compressors this protects the airend bearings from motor-side vibration and cushions load changes during startup.

Key Benefits

  • Misalignment Compensation: Accepts parallel and angular offset between motor and compressor shafts.
  • Vibration Damping: Absorbs torsional pulses and motor cogging before they reach the airend.
  • Shock Absorption: Softens startup torque and sudden load changes.
  • Easy Service: Split hubs slide on shafts; no full teardown needed for inspection.
  • Also Called: Bowex coupling, flexible jaw coupling, gear coupling, elastomeric coupling, drive coupling, motor coupling, compressor coupling hub.

Common Applications

  • Rotary screw air compressors with separate motor and airend
  • Industrial plants, workshops, and compressed air stations
  • Compressor overhaul, driveline service, and vibration troubleshooting
  • Spare-parts inventory for maintenance teams

When To Replace

Inspect if the compressor shows rising vibration, unusual noise at the coupling, visible cracks or melting on the nylon hub, looseness on shafts, or unexplained bearing temperature rise. Nylon hubs degrade from heat, oil exposure, and repeated torque spikes—even if the metal hubs look fine.

Installation & Order Note

  • Confirm shaft diameter, keyway size, hub bore, overall length, and Bowex 100 size against the removed coupling.
  • Check both motor and airend shaft alignment with a dial indicator; coupling flexibility does not fix bad alignment.
  • Clean shaft tapers and keyways; do not hammer hubs on. Use proper puller and press fit.
  • Replace both halves as a pair when wear is uneven.
  • Send photos of the old coupling, shaft ends, and machine nameplate to confirm fitment.
